Post 4: Policing women's body

The way the female body is viewed, especially by men in our society has always been controversial and for many years has had a negative cognitation.   A women’s body is often seen as a sexual object and personally I think media plays a huge impact in such.  
            Video vixensin many Hip-Hop and Reggaetón music videos often display woman of color in their videos. The bodies of the women who appear in the videos are oversexualized and usually have minimal to no clothing on and are surrounded by other women with the similar body types.  Certain body parts of a woman, like their breasts, legs, & buttocks are strongly emphasized in these videos, which in result I think causes the misconception of what beauty is to younger generation of girls who watch these videos.  

            Breastfeeding in public is also an issue that has been controversial surrounding the woman’s body. Not only does the woman’s body have the natural ability to bring life into this world, but it can also provide food for a child, yet many women are criticized by both males and other females for breast feeding in public. Which is a complete double standard if you ask me. The lack of support of breastfeeding in a workplaceis also a barrier that employed mothers encounter. As was the case for my co-worker who recently became a mother and found herself in tough situation when having to tell her male supervisor she needed 15- 20 minutes in the morning and afternoon to breast pump. She struggled finding a place where she can pump that she would sometimes have to go into a bathroom stall.  
The 2014 Netflix documentary Free The Nipplewas to support to the double standard woman face in regards to be shirtless and for gender equality.  In society it is acceptable for a man to be shirtless in public places such as the park, gym, and beach, but socially and morally incorrect a female is shirtless. Woman are harassed and shamed for being topless at a beach, but in society it’s completely acceptable for a man. Which
