What Teenagers Think About the Allegations Against Brett Kavanaugh

Here is the New York Times article that I spoke about in class. A very interesting article and how it plays with topics and themes that we've already read and discussed about the male gaze and gender roles. I hope you enjoy reading it.

  1. Thanks for the article, TJ. It was equally depressing and insightful to hear what these kids think of the situation and how it reinforces a dangerous (and misguided, and let's face it - incredibly sexist) status quo. After the proceedings that occurred on Thursday, I have little hope that Kavanaugh won't be confirmed. It was difficult to watch, especially whenever Lindsey Graham opened his mouth. One thing I did notice as a result is an increased solidarity among women, especially those who are sexual assault survivors, on social media (Twitter in particular). Even if the government is failing so many of us, I hope people can see the groundswell of community and support that's taken place over the past few days. I'm sure it will dissipate with the news cycle as it so often does, but I don't think the discussion will stop. It took us decades to finally bring to light how pervasive this problem is on a national scale, so I remain (somewhat cautiously) optimistic that things will be headed in the right direction... eventually.
